A Chennai Girl's guide to Dating...

Let us start with a Disclaimer, shall we? What all goooood posts start with one... So --> This might apply to dates generally. But hello, I am writing this and I am a Chennai girl. Hence the title. ok? OK!

Venue:
Chennai as much it is hot, is a beautiful place. If the guy leaves the choice of date to you, think wisely. And don't pick a mall, as much as the idea of spending the day at a Centrally Air-conditioned Mall tempts you to no end.

If it is a simple coffee date, do not pick the same old Cafe Coffee Day. Well hello, you have been sitting at that place almost daily and all the waiters know you and your order. Do yourself a favor and think about Madras Coffee House (T. Nagar), The Madras Kafe (Nungambakkam), Coffee Central (T Nagar), Coffee world (Abhiramapuram), The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (Velachery) and so on. Or if you are really adventurous, ride out to ECR towards Kipling cafe.

Heck if the date sucks, you will at least have a good menu to ponder upon. Why should you be stuck with a bad date and a bad coffee??

Eating out:

umm... Eating at a restaurant, yes...

Starve the previous meal!!! please please, do not go pick on your food. What are you trying to do? Save him some bucks?? Go all out and chomp on that Masala dosa! Murder that plate of vazhapoo vada!! Or if you swing the other way, slurp some of that sauce from the chicken wings like you mean it! Carve out good chunk out of your beef steak. I personally like some good Mughalai biriyani, Syrian Beef fry and a lemon soda. Then may be a large serving of Ice cream. Or if there is a dessert buffet, three of everything and the chef on my plate, pretty please with whipped cream and cherry on top!

Digressing, ouch! My relationship with food is a different story, of well.. But yeah, I have learnt that a girl with a good appetite is a huge turn on for guys as much as anything else. Never got the logic behind it, oh well!

Dressing up:

Not much of a choice here. Chennai climate makes sure that you can't wear layers. And wearing anything shorter will get you raped and I am not even joking here. I simply don't care and wear what I like. Add my quirky sense and you have a laugh riot. There have been instances when I have worn Sweater in May, White sheer kurta on a rainy August day, matched Yellow kurta with bright pink accessories, carried a red handbag and wore my green sneakers!! I am sure Actor Ramarajan would have been proud of me!

Conversation:
FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, DO NOT BRING UP BOOKS!! Chances are that his favorite book would be Three mistakes of my life by Chetan Bhagat. One fellow passionately dissected and explained Two states to me. The delicious grilled chicken sandwich was the only thing that held me from running away.

Another topic to avoid is music. I was happily singing along to Bohemian Rhapsody and one fellow said "I JUST LOVE JUSTIN BEIBER". I had to pretend that I went momentarily deaf just to sit there for 20 more minutes.

Stick to weather, the love for Chennai, the latest economic development and anything neutral... If he says, he hates Chennai and its climate, it is time for you run away like a headless chicken. WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH A CHENNAI HATER, ANYWAYS??

Well anyways, Be yourself. He should know what he is in for, shouldn't he??

And even after all these you do graduate to the mythical second date, sit back and relax, he is a keeper!!

Top Ten Signs that You love your Job!

or as my clever close friend Santa calls me, WORKAHOLIC!

1. You leave a mattress and pillow in your office but never get around to use it. Because you are busy, you know... working.
2. You leave a set of clothes in your office. Or like in my case 3. What?? a set of formal, casuals and an Evening dress just in case I get invited to a party (umm ok, that is never happening)
3. You leave matching shoes for the above said clothes. Heh!! I just proved I am a girl, yes!! pumps fist in air
4. Opening a desk drawer will lead you to find enough junk food stash to survive an apocalypse.
5. Restaurant door delivery guys get confused when you ask them to deliver to your home address. I got a "But Madam, you are never there. Are you sure, you are there??" #facepalm.
6. You give your office address to your friends when they want to send you something, just because the courier guys can never find you at your home no matter what the delivery time is. #truestory.
7. You remember all your work passwords but can't remember your home WiFi's password, even if your life depends on it.
8. Your desk drawer is a mini-library of legal and work procedure books.
9. Your coffee-maker-turned-tea-steeper breaks down every two weeks and the service guy asks you to stop abusing it.
10. You breakdown and have to get medicated for depression when you take a "voluntary" work break of a 3 days. SOMEBODY-KILL-ME-KNOW!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hola!!! How are you folks?? Yes, you two. The two poor souls who have subscribed to my sorry feed.

Life has been good. But you already know it, don't ya? Chennai is good and I am not trading it for any other city. I wanted to write here what all I did for the past 1 year. But me being me, can't collect what the eff, I was doing for past 1 year, heh let alone remember what I had for breakfast. Hey, wait! Did I have my breakfast?? umm, no idea...

Anyhow, Take care. Lets hope I don't vanish in thin air again :-)

Now it has a title!

So apparently there are folks out there who are angry and dejected that i dont visit their blogs... to quote "someone"
Ipdilaam bribe kuduthalachum ivanga namma blog pakkamlaam varangalanu paaka thaan :D   (Want to see if she comes by my blog  atleast when I bribe her)
ahem ahem!! but, tch tch tch, I do read all your blogs, you , you and even you... but the only issue is I read them on my Google Reader and the lazy ass I am, never bother to click on individual posts to comment on the post.   oh well... that sounded super snooty... :D

anyhow... So,  apparently I have been awarded with *wait for it....* *and drum rolls please* The Versatile Blogger award.. thank you , thank you... unfortunately I don't have a pet chihuhuhuhuhuhua to thank for supporting me to get this award. Oh well...

RULES about the award:
1. Thank the person who awarded you and link back to them in your post (ahem, Thanks gils.. :D )
2. Tell 7 random facts about yourself (ugh.... Amber alert amber alert, this post asks me to spill the beans)
3. Pass the award (dammit!! I thought I can keep it to myself :| )

Ok so lets get on with it!

1. I read a lot... A lot means a loooooooooooot... every morning I wake up to an overflowing Google reader and after reading them, I read the articles in the explore section. When that is over, I search for certain keywords I am working on that day and read them.. I also refresh my GReader multiple times a day... Then i click on every damn link shared on tweeter. Then is the offline reading. As of now, I am reading Chanakya's Chant by Ashwin Sanghvi. Then I am reading three different types of manuscripts for my research. And finally, four reference books for my photography. Phew... :P

2. I space out quite easily. When I am out with friends and others are talking about topic that least concerns me, I zone out pretty easily. Duh! What am I saying?? There are times when I have zoned out even while getting specific instructions from clients and ask them to send it over in an email :D

3. I am a creature of habits.. To me there is a routine set in everyday.. I brush after bath, often combining it with a mental checklist of to-do things of the day. The keys go into a certain pocket. I pack my laptop after packing my lunch and before checking on the things I carry daily. If even a single step goes wrong, it will be mad dash in the evening. I won't remember where I left the keys and you will witness me doing a baboon dance rummaging my butt searching for the keys.. umm the back pockets of the jean, I mean.. So you get the drift?? No? Well dammit! :P

4. I love babies until someone else is holding.. I can make babies smile, play with them, baby talk to them.. but only till someone else holds it.. If given to me, probably I'll freak out.. Dunno.. Never tried.. :-P

NOW!! wait-a-nimit!!! why does this oddly feel like a tag.. Gils, u tricked me eh!! dammit!! oh well, I ll revert to one line answers then :D

5. I love eating raw mangoes, half ripe guavas and half ripe papaya with salt and chili powder.. Mom makes the sour expression instead of me whenever I eat such stuff in her presence :D

6. As much as I love clicking, I am not comfortable with others clicking me. There are only a handful of people I am comfortable posing for. (and that list is fast depleting :( )

7. I suck at writing blog posts... just imagine. Gils gave me this award on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 (copy pasted from his blog :P) and I was writing writing writing it till today :| meh!! Lazy eh! I like to call myself super busy :D

And now to pass on the award,

1. Cybernag / Zephyr or watever she wants to call herself :D My cyber mom, she is :)
2. R's Mom - I think i know her name, but i am doubtful. oh well.. :)
3. err anyone else who wants it..
